New Year, Past and Present

Goodbye 2017, Hello 2018!

As I sit snuggled up on the couch after another great New Year (feeling slightly worse for wear), I’m thinking that it just might be one of my favourite holidays. I’ve had so many great experiences with so many different people over the years that make up some of the best memories I have. Even when New Years consisted of just staying in with friends, it was spending it with those people that made it special. Over the last few years I’ve been lucky enough to spend New Years in London, Dublin, and Edinburgh (definitely a highlight). I’ve spent it in the 1920s catching a murderer, and last year I was surrounded by my family and some of my best and oldest friends when we went back to Canada for the holidays. This year was definitely the quietest one we’ve had in a while, but that made it no less memorable. We had friends over for the night and we ate too much food, drank way too much alcohol, and almost ended said friendships with an evening of cut throat game playing!

In 22 days we leave for a year of travel and, although nervous, I am also insanely excited for this next adventure. Next New Years is still a year away, but I think I feel Sydney Harbour calling me… I’ll let you know how it goes. So as the first day of 2018 draws to a close, I am looking forward to spending the rest of the year as I started it – with Rich by my side, surrounded by people I love, with an endless amount of laughter and hope in my life. Happy New Years everyone.

“These memories will stay with me
Now I am far away
These memories still remain
Now I’m far away
You stay with me the same
Now I’m far away
These memories still remain.”
