Beer: Kilimanjaro Premium Lager (Sab Miller AB)
Brewed in: Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania
Type: Pale Lager
Thoughts: After a sucessful 6 day hike up (and down) Mount Kilimanjaro, it only felt right to relax with a beer named after the mountain. It was served in a cold bottle, whilst our group sat on sofas outside gazing up at the conquered mountain and reliving the highs and lows of the climb. It is a simple clean lager that goes down very easily. The motto of Kilimanjaro beer is: if you don’t climb it you can drink it, and you drink it after you climb it. Kilimanjaro beer is exactly what is required after such an experience.
Summary: Nothing tastes better after conquering Mount Kilimanjaro.
Beer: Safari Lager (Sab Miller AB)
Brewed in: Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania
Type: Pale Lager
Thoughts: After a refreshing Mount Kilamanjaro beer, I though it was only right to try the other local offerings, including Safari beer. It’s hoppy almost Carlsberg like taste was a stark contrast to the clean nature of Kilimanjaro beer. Overall a disappointing follow up to the refreshing Kilimanjaro beer but perhaps that is an unfair comparison.
Summary: Forgettable…
Beer: Serengeti Premium Lager (Serengeti Breweries (EABL/East African Breweries))
Brewed In: Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania
Type: Malt Beer
Thoughts: Serengeti was a nice surprise after the Safari. It wad a malt beer which meant it offered much more character than a standard lager. The richer taste reminded me of various craft beers from Britain and it didn’t really taste like a typical lager. It left me wondering how amazing this beer would taste if it was served a little warmer (yes I am British and appreciate warm beers) on a British Autumn evening. Strangley the Tanzanian dry season did not seem the right place for beer so I will have too look out for it again another time.
Summary: Interesting, one to try again on a slightly cooler day.
Haha! Love the summaries, Rich! “Forgettable” brilliant! X
