Standing at the harbour in Haines, Alaska

Hello! My name is Melissa. I am a Canadian, originally from Calgary Alberta. I moved to the UK for the first time in 2009, met my husband Richard, moved back to Canada in 2011 to go to University, married Rich in 2013, and moved back to the UK the same year. And I have been here ever since. It’s been a bit of a whirlwind 8 years!

I went to university to study Child and Youth Care Counselling, and I now work in Warwickshire with low income, disadvantage families to prevent children being taken into care. Rich is an Automotive Engineer, and he does something with cars and engines that I don’t really understand! Although his job does include a fair amount of travelling, and he has recently been to South Korea, China, and Japan – which I am very jealous about.

Since moving to the UK I have done a lot of travelling – both solo, as well as with others – but mostly around Europe. I have always had plans to travel more of the world than just Europe; however, those were always put on hold for one reason or another – moving back to Canada, going to University, getting married, moving back to the UK, settling into the UK, buying a house. As I said before, it’s been a busy few years. Needless to say, it’s gotten us to a point where we have the ability and time to be able to do the travelling we want to do, in the way that we want to do it.

We both quit our jobs and on January 23rd we left the UK and flew to Africa to start a year long adventure together. This blog will document where we are and what we’re doing, and maybe you might find something helpful in here as well. Feel free to ask us any questions or give suggestions, they are always welcome.
